Surprise

Not too long ago I was able to listen to Sister Elaine. S. Dalton speak - in person!

Is she not beautifully amazing and amazingly beautiful?!?

She said something to the young women she was addressing that in no way, shape or form applied to blogging whatsoever. But I've been thinking about what she said as it applies to my little world within the blogosphere.

She said something like this:
When you start feeling like you're fitting in, you will be unable to lead. The Lord needs leaders, not people who want to fit in.
And that is where I have been for the past  three and a half months - trying to figure out why I want to fit-in with mommy bloggers who create, and share, and craft, and photograph, and have legions of followers who Tweet and Facebook and the what nots - all at the SAME TIME!!!

Because comparatively speaking, I have little to offer. So very little.  For it seems undaunting to just be who I am, and share what I feel when I'm feeling that I don't fit in.

But after hearing Sis. Dalton, and being asked by a few people if I was ever going to blog again, it made me realize that no matter how small and simple my offering, it's okay NOT to fit in!!

So I won't!

And I think I'll start blogging again.

Because frankly, I've got an awful lot to share!

  1. Please start blogging again. You, the very special YOU, has something to share, to lead out in. The world needs to hear about the life and times of a mother of nine children. When so many are whining that the world is overpopulated and we shouldn't have children, your voice can be a witness for the truths of the restored gospel and the truths found in The Family: A Proclamation to the World. PLEASE, blog from your heart. I've had the same dilemma and your post today cleared the fog and I can see clearly now (hey, that could be a song!) Thanks for sharing.

  2. My dear friend, you have been so missed. And you are such a spiritual leader and strength. I hope you never stop. You are unique and special in your own way--and not just because I think so.

    Thanks for inspiring me.

  3. I was almost ready to send you an email to check on you. I have such a love/hate relationship with blogging and Facebook (maybe you're one of those smart ones who never joined Facebook). I'm so glad you're not going to try to fit in. I once took a test that said I was like Jasmine from Aladdin because she went against what society said she should be and have tried to go by that ever since. We can all support each of us bloggers who just don't fit in. Reminds me of high school or something, but sadly in the church :)

  4. O yay! You're back and I'm glad. I love your insights. Your strength and example make it easier for me to stand alone and not fit in (not in the blog sense, but in the worldly sense.) Thanks for sharing Sister Dalton's quote --I like it a lot!

  5. You're blogging again! Yeah!!!!!!!

On another note...I have never heard that quote from Sister Dalton, but I LOVE IT!!!

    Thank you for sharing it.

Little did you know how badly, and by badly I do mean desperately, I needed to hear it THIS week and last week, and the week before that, and the week before that, etc., etc.. (It's been a long six months.)

Seriously, I am not mocking you - I have been going through experiences that would seem to squelch my very existence and yet I still feel like I'm supposed to "show up" after all is said and done. This helped me understand why. Again, thank you.

    P.S. You're blogging again! Yeah!!!!!!!

  6. @Dori: I was at a fireside for three Stakes where Sis. Dalton addressed young women and said this to them. So that is why you haven't heard it from the General Conference pulpit . . but it did come from a pulpit. :)

@everyone else. . . Sigh! It's good to be back!
